Overview
The Crown Season 1 is the first season of Netflix's historical drama, chronicling the reign of Queen Elizabeth II. The season follows Elizabeth (Claire Foy) from her marriage to Prince Philip (Matt Smith) in 1947 to her early years as queen. She is a young, inexperienced woman who is thrust into the role of monarch after the death of her father, King George VI (Jared Harris). The first season explores the challenges she faces, including her difficult relationship with her husband, her conflict with her sister, Princess Margaret (Vanessa Kirby), and her dealings with Prime Minister Winston Churchill (John Lithgow). The season ends with the death of Churchill and the beginning of Elizabeth's long reign.
