Overview
Wish is a 2023 computer-animated musical fantasy film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios, directed by Chris Buck and Fawn Veerasunthorn. The film is a celebration of 100 years of Disney animation. The film stars the voices of Ariana DeBose as Asha, a young, idealistic girl who makes a wish on a star; Chris Pine as King Magnifico, a charismatic but corrupt sorcerer who grants wishes; and Alan Tudyk as Valentino, Asha's goat. Asha lives in the kingdom of Rosas, where King Magnifico grants the wishes of his subjects. Asha discovers that Magnifico is not granting the wishes; he is hoarding them for power. She makes a wish on a star, and the star comes to life, a small, glowing ball of energy. The film is a return to the classic Disney musical style, with songs by Julia Michaels and Benjamin Rice. The film was a commercial disappointment, earning over $250 million on a $200 million budget. It was praised for its animation and its music, but criticized for its weak plot.
