Game of Thrones Season 1
Overview
Game of Thrones Season 1 is the first season of HBO's epic fantasy series, based on the A Song of Ice and Fire novels by George R.R. Martin. The season is set on the fictional continents of Westeros and Essos and follows multiple interweaving storylines. The central conflict begins when King Robert Baratheon (Mark Addy) asks his old friend Ned Stark (Sean Bean), the honorable lord of the North, to become his Hand of the King. Ned travels to King's Landing, the capital, and discovers that Robert's children are not his own — they are products of incest between Queen Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) and her twin brother Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau). Robert is killed in a hunting accident, Ned is betrayed and executed, and the realm descends into the War of the Five Kings. Meanwhile, across the Narrow Sea, the exiled Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) is sold into marriage to the Dothraki warlord Khal Drogo (Jason Momoa). She begins her journey from frightened girl to powerful leader, and she hatches three dragon eggs. The season is known for its shocking twists, its willingness to kill off its hero, and its complex political intrigue.
