Overview

Hawkeye Season 2 reunites Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) and Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) in a new crisis that tests both the partnership they built in Season 1 and the very different places they now occupy in their world. Clint, who spent the first season trying to retire and go home for Christmas, finds that the life he wanted to leave behind will not leave him — the consequences of his years as Ronin continue to create enemies, complications, and obligations that his bow and his stubbornness are increasingly insufficient to handle alone. Kate, now operating as a genuine superhero rather than a very skilled fan, is building her own life and her own reputation. She has moved out of her mother's apartment, has her own place in Brooklyn, and is trying to balance hero work with a day job (she is working as a private investigator, following in Clint's footsteps). Lucky the Pizza Dog continues to be excellent, serving as both comic relief and emotional support. The season's plot involves a conspiracy that connects the New York underworld to something much larger — a weapons ring that is selling technology stolen from Avengers battles, including repulsor tech, Pym particles, and even fragments of Vibranium. The trail leads Kate to Los Angeles, where she encounters other young heroes and the West Coast version of the criminal underworld. The season introduces new characters: Echo (Alaqua Cox) returns, having survived the events of her own series, and she has a complicated relationship with both Clint and Kate; the Swordsman (Tony Dalton) is back, claiming he wants to help but with motives that are unclear; and a new villain called the Clown (who may be connected to the Circus of Crime) is causing chaos across the city. The season also features flashbacks to Clint's early days as Hawkeye, showing his relationship with his first wife and his early training. Hawkeye Season 2 is a street-level superhero story that reminds us that the best heroes are the ones who keep getting back up, no matter how many times they get knocked down.
