Overview

WALL-E is a 2008 computer-animated science fiction film produced by Pixar Animation Studios and directed by Andrew Stanton. The film is set in a dystopian future where Earth has been abandoned due to pollution and waste. Humans live on a giant spaceship, the Axiom, where they are waited on by robots and have become obese, lazy, and disconnected from the world. The film follows WALL-E (Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-Class), a small, lonely, and curious robot who has been left on Earth to clean up the trash. He has developed a personality, and he collects interesting objects. He falls in love with EVE (Extra-terrestrial Vegetation Evaluator), a sleek, advanced robot who is sent to Earth to look for signs of plant life. The film is a meditation on consumerism, environmentalism, and the importance of human connection. The first half of the film is almost dialogue-free, and it is a masterpiece of visual storytelling. The film ends with the humans returning to Earth, and with WALL-E and EVE finding love. WALL-E was a massive critical and commercial success, earning over $521 million worldwide. It won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. The film is widely considered one of the greatest animated films ever made and a masterpiece of science fiction.
