Nope
Overview
Nope is a 2022 science fiction horror film written and directed by Jordan Peele, starring Daniel Kaluuya as OJ Haywood, a quiet, reserved horse trainer; Keke Palmer as Emerald "Em" Haywood, OJ's loud, ambitious, and charismatic sister; and Steven Yeun as Ricky "Jupe" Park, a former child star who runs a Western theme park. The film is set in the arid, isolated Agua Dulce, California, on the Haywood family ranch. The Haywoods are the descendants of the Black jockey who is featured in the first motion picture, Eadweard Muybridge's "The Horse in Motion." They train horses for film and television. The film begins with OJ's father, Otis Haywood Sr. (Keith David), being killed by a nickel that falls from the sky. OJ and Em discover that a UFO, which they call "Jean Jacket," is hovering over their ranch. They try to capture evidence of the UFO, hoping to sell it and save the ranch. The film is a meditation on spectacle, exploitation, and the human desire to capture and control the unknown. It is also a love letter to filmmaking, and to the art of capturing motion. The film ends with OJ and Em successfully photographing Jean Jacket, which is revealed to be a massive, flying, saucer-shaped creature. Em takes a photograph using a vintage camera, and OJ rides his horse through the frame. Jean Jacket is destroyed by a giant inflatable tube man. Nope was a critical and commercial success, earning over $171 million on a $68 million budget. The film is a unique, ambitious, and visually stunning addition to Peele's filmography.
