Overview
Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 1 is the first season of Fox's police sitcom. The series is set at the 99th Precinct of the New York Police Department in Brooklyn. The series follows a group of detectives and their captain. The main characters include Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg), a talented, immature, and goofy detective who solves crimes through instinct and intuition; Captain Raymond Holt (Andre Braugher), the stern, deadpan, and brilliant new captain who is the precinct's first openly gay commanding officer; Sergeant Terry Jeffords (Terry Crews), a gentle giant who is terrified of being injured in the line of duty and leaving his twin daughters fatherless; Detective Rosa Diaz (Stephanie Beatriz), a tough, intimidating, and mysterious detective who never shows emotion; Detective Amy Santiago (Melissa Fumero), a competitive, ambitious, and nerdy detective who is desperate to impress Captain Holt; Detective Charles Boyle (Joe Lo Truglio), a loyal, quirky, and food-obsessed detective who has a crush on Rosa; and Gina Linetti (Chelsea Peretti), the precinct's narcissistic, eccentric civilian administrator who is obsessed with social media. The first season establishes the characters and their dynamics, with the central conflict being between Jake's immature approach to police work and Holt's demand for professionalism and order. The season also develops the will-they-won't-they romance between Jake and Amy, who start as rivals for Holt's approval. The first season was a critical and commercial success, winning the Golden Globe for Best Television Series Musical or Comedy. The season finale ends with Jake and Holt being placed in witness protection, a cliffhanger that sets up the second season.
