Overview
The Rock is a 1996 action thriller film directed by Michael Bay, starring Nicolas Cage as Stanley Goodspeed, an FBI chemical weapons expert, and Sean Connery as John Patrick Mason, a former British SAS captain who is the only man to have ever escaped from Alcatraz. A group of rogue Marines, led by General Francis X. Hummel (Ed Harris), takes over Alcatraz and threatens to launch rockets filled with a deadly nerve agent at San Francisco. Goodspeed and Mason must infiltrate Alcatraz and stop the general. The film is a classic Michael Bay action movie, with fast-paced editing, explosive stunts, and patriotic speeches. The Rock was a critical and commercial success, earning over $335 million worldwide. It is considered one of Michael Bay's best films.
