The Gray Man
Overview
The Gray Man is a 2022 action thriller film directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, based on the 2009 novel of the same name by Mark Greaney. The film stars Ryan Gosling as Court Gentry, a former CIA operative who is now a freelance assassin; Chris Evans as Lloyd Hansen, a psychopathic former CIA agent who is hired to hunt Gentry down; and Ana de Armas as Dani Miranda, a CIA agent who helps Gentry. The film is set across the globe, from Bangkok to Vienna to Los Angeles. Gentry is a "gray man" — a ghost, an invisible man. He is the CIA's most skilled and most trusted assassin. He is betrayed by his own agency, and he is forced to go on the run. Hansen is a sadistic, unhinged villain who will stop at nothing to kill Gentry. The film is a high-budget, globe-trotting action movie, with spectacular set pieces, including a shootout in a crowded plaza, a fight on a moving train, and a finale in a burning castle. The film was a commercial success, becoming one of Netflix's most-watched original films. It was praised for its action sequences and its performances, especially Chris Evans as a gleefully evil villain. A sequel is in development.
