Overview
Ted Lasso is a 2020 sports comedy-drama television series created by Jason Sudeikis, Bill Lawrence, Brendan Hunt, and Joe Kelly for Apple TV+. The series stars Jason Sudeikis as Ted Lasso, an American college football coach who is hired to coach an English Premier League soccer team, AFC Richmond, despite having no experience with soccer. The series is a heartwarming, optimistic, and genuinely funny comedy. Ted is a relentlessly positive, kind, and folksy man from Kansas. He is hired by the team's owner, Rebecca Welton (Hannah Waddingham), who wants him to fail as revenge on her ex-husband. Instead, Ted wins over the players, the staff, and the fans with his folksy wisdom, his belief in others, and his "biscuits with the boss" tradition. The series also stars Brett Goldstein as Roy Kent, a gruff, aging, and beloved star player; Juno Temple as Keeley Jones, a model and WAG; and Brendan Hunt as Coach Beard, Ted's assistant coach. Ted Lasso has been a massive critical and commercial success, winning 11 Primetime Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Comedy Series twice. Jason Sudeikis won two Emmys for Outstanding Lead Actor. The series is widely considered one of the best and most uplifting shows of the 2020s. The series ended with its third season.
