Overview
Talk to Me is a 2023 supernatural horror film directed by Danny and Michael Philippou, based on a concept by Daley Pearson. The film stars Sophie Wilde as Mia, a teenage girl who is grieving the death of her mother; Joe Bird as Riley, Mia's younger brother; and Alexandra Jensen as Jade, Mia's best friend. The film is set in suburban Australia. A group of teenagers discover a ceramic hand that can be used to summon spirits. They hold the hand, say "talk to me," and they can see and communicate with the dead. They must let go of the hand within 90 seconds, or the spirit can possess them. The teenagers use the hand for parties, getting high on the thrill of possession. Mia becomes addicted to the feeling of connection to the dead, hoping to contact her mother. She holds the hand for too long, and she becomes possessed by a malevolent spirit. The film is a terrifying, intense, and emotionally devastating horror film. It explores themes of grief, addiction, and the dangers of seeking connection with the dead. Talk to Me was a massive critical and commercial success, earning over $92 million on a $4.5 million budget. The film was praised for its performances, its direction, and its originality. A sequel is in development.
