Overview

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law Season 2 returns Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany) to the intersection of superhero life and the absurd bureaucratic reality of practicing law in a world full of enhanced individuals, magical artifacts, and aliens with contractual disputes. Jen, more comfortable in her green skin than she was at the beginning of Season 1 but still navigating the impossible expectations placed on women who are also eight feet tall and occasionally need to smash things, faces a caseload in Season 2 that satirizes increasingly recognizable aspects of contemporary culture. The show's willingness to break the fourth wall becomes even more pointed, with Jen directly addressing the audience about everything from the patriarchy to the nature of storytelling. The season's cases include: a dispute between two Avengers about who gets custody of their shared pet (a genetically modified dinosaur); a class-action lawsuit against a tech company whose "anti-superhero" security system accidentally erased several heroes' secret identities; and a divorce case involving a couple where the wife is a sorceress who put a "happiness spell" on her husband (the question is whether the spell constitutes magical abuse or just a really aggressive couples therapy technique). Jen's personal life is also front and center. She is dating again, and the season explores the particular challenges of dating when you can become a giant green woman at any moment. Her family continues to be a source of both support and comedy, with her cousin Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) appearing in several episodes to offer (mostly unhelpful) advice. The season also introduces new villains: a rival lawyer who is determined to prove that superheroes should be regulated like dangerous animals; a tech billionaire who wants to buy the rights to She-Hulk's image; and a mysterious figure from the Leader's past who has a grudge against gamma-irradiated individuals. The season finale is another fourth-wall-breaking meta-commentary, with Jen confronting the writers of the show about where they're taking her story. She-Hulk Season 2 is funny, smart, and surprisingly heartfelt.
