Overview

Sharp Objects is a 2018 psychological thriller miniseries directed by Jean-Marc Vallée for HBO, based on the 2006 novel of the same name by Gillian Flynn. The series stars Amy Adams as Camille Preaker, a troubled, alcoholic journalist who returns to her small hometown of Wind Gap, Missouri, to investigate the murders of two young girls. Camille is haunted by her past: her younger sister, Marian, died when Camille was a teenager, and she has a difficult relationship with her mother, Adora (Patricia Clarkson). She also has a history of self-harm, covering her body with scars. The series is a slow-burn, atmospheric, and deeply disturbing exploration of trauma, family secrets, and the dark side of small-town life. The series features a memorable performance by Eliza Scanlen as Amma, Camille's half-sister, who is a spoiled, manipulative teenager. The series ends with a shocking twist: Amma is the killer. She killed the two girls, and she also killed Marian. Sharp Objects was a critical success, winning a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing. Amy Adams and Patricia Clarkson were both nominated for Emmys.
