Lost Season 1
Overview
Lost Season 1 is the first season of ABC's science fiction adventure drama. The series follows the survivors of Oceanic Flight 815, who crash-land on a mysterious island in the South Pacific. The first season introduces the main characters, including Jack Shephard (Matthew Fox), a spinal surgeon who becomes the leader of the survivors; Kate Austen (Evangeline Lilly), a fugitive who is handcuffed to a US Marshal when the plane crashes; Sawyer (Josh Holloway), a con man who is abrasive and selfish but has a hidden heart of gold; John Locke (Terry O'Quinn), a mysterious, spiritual man who believes the island is special and who can walk again after being paralyzed before the crash; Hugo "Hurley" Reyes (Jorge Garcia), a lottery winner who is haunted by bad luck and who is convinced the crash is his fault; Sayid Jarrah (Naveen Andrews), a former Iraqi soldier and communications officer who becomes the group's de facto leader; Jin-Soo Kwon (Daniel Dae Kim) and Sun-Hwa Kwon (Yunjin Kim), a Korean couple with a troubled marriage; and Charlie Pace (Dominic Monaghan), a washed-up rock star who is struggling with drug addiction. The survivors encounter a mysterious monster in the jungle that makes mechanical sounds and knocks down trees, a polar bear in the tropical jungle, and a group of French scientists who have been on the island for years. The first season also introduces the concept of the "Others," a mysterious group of people who already live on the island and who have taken some of the children. The first season ends with the survivors opening a hatch in the ground, revealing a mysterious light. Lost was a massive cultural phenomenon, and it is credited with popularizing the serialized, mystery-box style of television.
