House of the Dragon Season 1
Overview
House of the Dragon Season 1 is the first season of HBO's fantasy drama, serving as a prequel to Game of Thrones. The season is set approximately 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, during the height of the Targaryen dynasty. The series chronicles the beginning of the end of the Targaryen reign, a brutal civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons, fought between two factions of the family for control of the Iron Throne. King Viserys I Targaryen (Paddy Considine) names his daughter, Rhaenyra (Emma D'Arcy), as his heir. He marries again to Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke), who gives birth to a son, Aegon. After Viserys's death, Alicent seizes the throne for Aegon, sparking the Dance of the Dragons. The first season ends with the murder of Lucerys Velaryon by his uncle Aemond, plunging the realm into war.
