Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2
Overview
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 is a 2011 fantasy film directed by David Yates, the eighth and final installment in the Harry Potter film series. The film is based on the 2007 novel of the same name by J.K. Rowling. The film follows Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe), Ron Weasley (Rupert Grint), and Hermione Granger (Emma Watson) as they continue their quest to destroy Lord Voldemort's Horcruxes, objects that contain pieces of his soul. The film begins immediately after the events of Deathly Hallows Part 1, with the trio escaping from Malfoy Manor. They return to Hogwarts, where Harry believes the final Horcrux is hidden. The film culminates in the Battle of Hogwarts, an epic battle between the forces of good (Harry's friends, the Hogwarts staff, and the Order of the Phoenix) and the forces of evil (Voldemort's Death Eaters). Many beloved characters are killed, including Fred Weasley (James Phelps), Remus Lupin (David Thewlis), Nymphadora Tonks (Natalia Tena), and Severus Snape (Alan Rickman). Harry learns that Snape was actually a hero, and that he was in love with Harry's mother. He also learns that he is a Horcrux, and that he must die to destroy Voldemort. He sacrifices himself, but he is resurrected. He finally kills Voldemort. The film ends with a epilogue, 19 years later, showing Harry, Ron, and Hermione sending their own children off to Hogwarts. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 was a massive critical and commercial success, earning over $1.3 billion worldwide. It was nominated for three Academy Awards for Best Visual Effects, Best Art Direction, and Best Makeup. The film is a satisfying, emotional, and epic conclusion to one of the most beloved film franchises of all time.
