Daredevil: Born Again
Overview
Daredevil: Born Again is a 2025 superhero television series created by Chris Ord and Matt Corman for Disney+, serving as a revival and continuation of the 2015 Netflix series Daredevil. The series stars Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock / Daredevil, a blind lawyer who fights crime in Hell's Kitchen; Vincent D'Onofrio as Wilson Fisk / Kingpin, a powerful, ruthless crime lord; and Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle / Punisher, a vigilante who kills criminals. The series is set several years after the events of the Netflix series. Matt Murdock has retired from being Daredevil, having hung up his costume after a particularly brutal confrontation that left him questioning whether he was making a difference or just fueling the cycle of violence. He is now focused on his law practice at Nelson, Murdock & Page, taking on pro bono cases and trying to help people through the legal system rather than through violence. He is in a relationship with She-Hulk (Tatiana Maslany), having met her through their shared work as superhero attorneys, and for the first time in years, he is genuinely happy. Wilson Fisk has been elected Mayor of New York City, running on a platform of law and order and promising to clean up the streets. He is using his power to target vigilantes, passing laws that make masked crime-fighting illegal and deploying specialized police units to hunt them down. The public, tired of the collateral damage caused by superhero battles, largely supports him. Frank Castle is back, killing criminals and causing chaos, his brutal methods clashing with Matt's moral code and making them natural enemies. The series follows Matt as he is forced to come out of retirement to stop Fisk and to protect his city, confronting his past and the reasons he hung up the mask in the first place. The series is a darker, more violent, and more mature take on the character than the original Netflix series, with Fisk portrayed as an even more formidable antagonist now that he has legitimate political power backing his criminal enterprise. The action sequences are brutal and visceral, with one-take fight scenes that rival the best of the original series. The season also introduces new characters, including Muse, a serial killer who turns his victims into art, and White Tiger, a vigilante who uses a mystical amulet for powers. Daredevil: Born Again was a critical and commercial success, earning over 15 Emmy nominations. It was praised for its performances, its action sequences, and its return to the gritty, realistic tone of the original series. A second season has been ordered.
