Overview

Bridgerton is a 2020 period drama television series created by Chris Van Dusen for Netflix, based on the novel series by Julia Quinn. The series is set in the competitive world of Regency-era London's high society, during the "season," when debutantes are presented to the Queen in hopes of finding a wealthy husband. The series is a Shondaland production, and it has a modern, diverse, and feminist sensibility. The series follows the Bridgerton family, a wealthy, aristocratic family of eight siblings: Anthony (Jonathan Bailey), Benedict (Luke Thompson), Colin (Luke Newton), Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor), Eloise (Claudia Jessie), Francesca (Hannah Dodd), Gregory (Will Tilston), and Hyacinth (Florence Hunt). The first season focuses on Daphne's relationship with Simon Basset (Rege-Jean Page), the Duke of Hastings. The second season focuses on Anthony's relationship with Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley). The third season focuses on Colin's relationship with Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan), who is also the secret gossip columnist Lady Whistledown. The series is known for its lavish costumes, its diverse casting, its steamy sex scenes, and its modern pop music covers performed by string quartets. The series has been a massive success for Netflix, becoming one of its most-watched series. It has won four Primetime Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Costumes. The series has been renewed for a fourth season, which will focus on Benedict Bridgerton.
